Sex = Bad?

Important - Any comments to religions, countries or cultures made in this rant are just my thoughts. This rant is very much going to me just thinking out loud.

Sex = Bad. This is the general attitude on the internet held by some. The stereotype of how all adult RPers must be cybering as they write has especially irritated me for years. Where does this sudden 'sex=bad' attitude come from though? When I grew up all kids knew about sex and it was shameful to not know or not say you'd done something. Online I keep bumping into people who have such an intolerance for sex and sexuality. Then there is thw flip side. Take a look at livejournal for instance, it allows people to put interests. If I check 'sex' as an interest it tells me 389 communities and 464 users with that interest. That's not a huge amount, so are people just scared to put it down or have they been given the 'sex=bad' lecture too?

Personally I don't consider sex or adult RPG to be wrong, evil or disgusting. I take all the RPing as a pinch of salt, and let RPers do as they wish. I find animal RPGs weird and I disagree with them, but I don't boycott them or rant about them. Most adult RPGs are defined as sexual, despite the fact that 'adult' does cover a large spectrum. Why does sex get high-lighted more than any other part of adult? Drugs are bad right? Violence too, so why sex? I do wonder whether country and religion has something to do with it.

Age definetly does. Although I have seen a few rants about adult RP around the web, it's usually the younger Rpers that go 'ewww'. Adult's just take it in their stride, whether they agree or not. The response of 'eww' rather than an actual reason, or dedicated argument, does tend to suggest that age is an issue. It's not just all children though. There seems to be a difference between countries, and I'm basing this idea on personal experience. Sex was something we were not supposed to do, but it was never evil or bad, when I was a child. It was NEVER disgusting. The majority of internet users I come across in RPGs are English, American and Australian. Out of that list I only know America as being a very Christian country, so I wonder whether that has created this 'sex=bad' attitude. There is a problem with thsi train of thought, and that is that I know Americans who have no qualms about sexual RP scenes. Perhaps it is just age, I'm really not sure.

Likewise, as I have said, why just sex? Why does no one freak out over "emo characters" who do drugs and cut themselves? I'd be interested to know that.
