Online abuse of freedom / Learn to advertise your RPG!

This abuse has nothing to do with spam email, virus' or fraud. It's to do with the simple people who grab your email from a fanlisting or your messanger ids from a website, and proceed to use that as a valid excuse to spam you. Many people would claim that 'it's your own fault if you put them somewhere public', but why is it OUR fault? Why can't we leave our contact information somewhere for the people who do have a valid reason to contact us?

In short, our freedom is abused in my opinion. This abuse is not harmful, not like other forms of abuse, it's just irritating. I now have to keep my messanger ids off of this site, my own personal site, my own domain. Even in my own fanlistings I have to put my email as hidden to save me from people spamming me trying to advertise their website.

LEARN TO ADVERTISE YOUR WEBSITE

That is what the rest of the internet world does. The only fanlistings I contact about websites is the Marianne Curley fanlisting and the Guardians of Time Fanlisting. This is simply because they are both a part of the Old Magic fansite, and I own all three.

It's especially infuriating when someone emails me inviting me to an RPG. Not only am I an RPG Owner, but I also run a website that has a 'how to advertise' guide. I think I am quite capable of searching through the tonne of links for an RPG. I have most likely seen your RPG before. If I wanted to join it I would have. Spamming me with yahoo group invites will NOT make me join your group, it will instead make me stay clear of it.

The worst part is spamming people with website links is profitable. Some people do act upon it while the rest of us slave away trying to advertise properly.
