Description: Violet was born to Marcus and Jamelyn Anning, two prominent members of the Court of Veritaius. It was well known that her mother could trace her line back to a relative of King Harold. Violet's father, Marcus, came from a wealthy and influential family as well. Although their marriage had been arranged by their parents, Marcus and Jamelyn found each other's company enjoyable. It was not long after their marriage that Jamelyn became pregnant with their child, and nine months later Violet was born.
Any child from such a powerful union would be the heir to a large inheritance, and Violet was spoiled as soon as she was born. Such treatment was not destined to last for long though, and when she was three years old her parents died during the journey home from a ball. A bridge their carriage crossed had become weakened by rotting wood and it finally gave way. It was a freak accident that changed Violet's life.
She was taken in by her father's brother and his wife who cared more for Violet's inheritance than their niece. They already had a child of their own, a boy several years older than Violet. Like his brother, Jared's marriage had been arranged as well, but their parents had cared little for who he married. It was Marcus' marriage that was more important, so Jared got a lower noble that was more profitable for business rather than politics.
Violet's uncle never forgot that his niece, not his own son, was the one that would inherit the family lands. He did not abuse his niece, she was just kept on a strict leash while his son was given the freedom to do as he wish. Of course, the stricter a guardian is the more the child rebels, and Violet did that. As Violet grew into a teenager she began to perfect the art of escaping her Governess with the aid of the servants. Every moment of her spare time was spent doing something completely unlady-like, including taking trips into the local village and spending time amongst the peasants.
By the age of 17 Violet's behaviour was worrying enough that her aunt and uncle feared what would happen as she grew older. After her parents death it was decided that Violet would inherit when she was 21, and that inheritance included the lands that her aunt and uncle called home. Growing fearful that their niece would quite happily kick them out of their home when she reached that age, they changed tatics. They loosened their tight reign on her, and even indulged her interest in horses to the point of helping her begin her own stable of horses. In later years when Violet tried to rebel, her uncle simply threatened to remove the stables or sell the horses.
It has been these threats that have kept Violet's rebellious nature under control, and allowed them to begin the hunt for a suitor for their niece. Over the past two years every man has given up on Violet, claiming her to be too immature, too bothersome or just an awful woman. Violet has been clever in ridding herself of each suitor, playing the game carefully so that she can proclaim her innocence. After all, it is not her fault if the man was escorted to the wrong place, or if she had to refuse someone's advances to maintain her virtue. Truth be known, her guardians fear harming the stables and horses in case they anger her too much. Instead they search for a man that Violet will like, a man that can control their niece for them.
Violet is far from a nice young woman, her time with her aunt and uncle teaching her to look out for number one. She knows that she has a pure bloodline and wealthy inheritance, and that is why so many people are nice to her. She has a temper, and has absolutely no patience for stupidity, games or superficial nobles. Her life has been a lonely one, her horses and servants being her only real companions. This has left her with little in common with other nobles her own age, and she cannot abide listening to them all. Despite the success of her parent's marriage she detests the idea of an arranged marriage, and would much prefer falling in love. She is trying desperatly to fend off possible suitors until she turns the age of 21. Her uncle and aunt are correct in worrying about what Violet might do when she inherits, and she definetly intends to have them removed from her lands.
Physical Appearance: A good bloodline is not the only thing Violet has inherited from her parents, and she is the splitting image of her mother when she was young. She has her mother's beautiful ebony hair, which falls to the middle of her back. Violet only keeps it long because so many have commented on how it reminds them of her mother. Instead of cutting it she usually keeps it pulled back in a braid or a bun.
Her skin is the same pale shade as her mother's, although the handful of freckles on her nose and cheeks are from her father. Likewise, her startling blue eyes are from her father as well. They are vivid shade of dark blue and are surrounded by dark lashes.
Violet often keeps her slender feminine form under cover, preferring to wear britches and a shirt like a man than the dresses of a woman. When in public she allows her aunt to dress her in whatever dress she has had designed for the occasion.
Talents: Many say that Violet's talents lie in trouble making, and this is partially true. She has established various ways to escape her guardians or a possible suitor, as well as a skill in story telling. Making herself come out as innocent is a talent she has established in the last few years. Violet can be manipulative when she wishes to be, but she does have a good heart. She is good at recognising characteristics in people, whether they be good or bad, and she judges people accordingly.
Violet's one true love of horses means that she is a very acomplished rider, more so than is proper for a woman of her caste. She has a knack for being able to ride most horses, especially those who refuse to allow others to ride them. Her interest in horses does not lie just in riding, and Violet manages her own stables well. She has learnt the business dealings of the horse industry, and is able to inspect a horse to professional standards.
Suprisingly, Violet's list of talents does contain a range of activities and hobbies that noble women are expected to have. These are all from the teaching she recieved from her Governess and some she does enjoy, others she detests with a passion. Overall, Violet has been groomed to be the perfect potential wife, it's just her attitude that has kept her unmarried for now.
