Nyla

Title: Storm Bringer
Court Position: King's Guard
Age: Thousands of years old
Species: Pure Sidhe
Gender: Female
Allies: A few within the Court even though she remains neutral.
Family: Brother; Niall
Weapons: Her chosen weapon is a sword of old. It's name has long since been lost and Nyla now fondly refers to it as Tempest. Like a Tempest, the sword has the ability to disrupt upon entering a body. In some Fey it causes a change in their energy, while in others it causes problems on a cellular level. Both cause the victim excrutiating pain and if left in a body too long, Tempest breaks the body down entirely. It is a weapon drawn to kill, and Nyla has a non-magical blade for other occasions. The second blade is also used for communication purposes and she is never without it.

Her two blades remain her favorite weapons, although Nyla has been known to use a variety of weapons. Whatever is needed in the situation she will use, including modern guns.

Description: Nyla was once worshipped as a weather Goddess along with her twin brother Niall. The people called to her for the rain to grow their crops, for the storms to end the heat waves and she answered them. Before the wieldings and the move to America, Nyla was known by another name. During the wars Nyla was an active warrior bringing death and chaos to the enemy. Like many when she lost her power she became known simply as Nyla. Only a few remember what she once was.

Her relationship with her brother had always been a rocky one. The two twins never saw eye to eye and after the move to America her brother became worse. He had moved willing with the Court rather than remaining in Europe, viewing it as the lesser of two evils. However, he made his disapproval of the decision evident. From then on Niall became a strong political figure in the Unseelie Court. Hiding his lack of respect for the royal family carefully in his games, he tried more than once to draw his sister into his plans. Nyla was a warrior, not a political pawn to be played and she continued to refuse him.

It was her brother's insistence and the constant courtship proposals that lead Nyla to make the decision to join the King's Guards. The choice was not only made to irritate her twin; it also kept her safe from his politics. The oaths she swore to the King are between her and Arawn, although it is rumoured that they were the strongest oaths known to the Sidhe.

Since then Nyla has protected the King. She takes her duties seriously, and remains neutral in all situations. Like her brother's politics, her neutrality has become something of a legend in the Court. Despite her drop in power Nyla has remained a formindable warrior, as well as an arrogant one and is naturally cold to most people. It is Nyla's power alone that allows her to act the way she does.

Only the King has her complete respect, and he alone calls her by a truer name; Storm Bringer. She abides the use of the name by the rest of the Royal Family with mild irritation, yet she will only obey Angus' orders. No one else calls her Storm Bringer to her face. She follows her Captain grudgingly, and only holds a small amount of respect for Oriana.

Physical Appearance: Nyla's hair falls in waves around her face and ends at her hips. It is the colour of storm clouds, a deep grey that is almost black. Metalic strands of silver are woven in among the grey, and once upon a time they sparked like lightning. Her eyes still contain a glimpse of her power. The outer ring is a dark grey, inside that is a ring of sky blue and then there is a ring around the pupil of golden light. A closer glance shows the gold to be flashes of lightning. Her skin is a warm gold and looks like it has been speckled with a fine gold dust.

Her hair is normally pulled back in a tight french braid. Nyla usually compliments the braid with either of her blades strapped to her back in an ornate leather hilt. Her admission into the Guard did not change Nyla's choice of clothing and she has two styles; armour and revealing. The later style was part of the reason why so many Sidhe Nobles tried to Court her; the other was of course her power. Nyla knows her power and dresses to impress. Her armour is ancient and enchanted, and covers her form carefully. It looks painful to wear, and if it was, Nyla would never admit it. If not in her armour then Nyla chooses clothes that emphasise and reveal her toned body.

Hands of Power: Nyla's first Hand of Power relates to the seat of her magic and it is the Hand of Lightning. As the name suggests she is able to call lightning to her left hand. Once the lightning has been called she is able to launch it at her opponent. While the hand is not activated by touch, touching an opponent can create a new level of pain. If she touches spare skin she can cause a similar experience as an electrocution. Of course, any armour or weapons that conduct electricity will not protect someone from this Hand of Power.

The second Hand she weilds is the Hand of Disturbance and it activated only by touch. When her right hand is placed against someone's skin Nyla has the ability to create a small area of pressure, a version of a cyclonic storm. In the area she touches a low level of pressure begins to build and spreads outwards. If Nyla touches skin over bones then the bones willbreak, if over an organ then the organ will burst under the pressure. The Hand used to be used to kill and now Nyla only briefly touches someone, enough to cause pain and wounds but not death.

Magic: Once able to call rain and bring Storms, Nyla is now only limited to smaller storms. She used to be able to make a Storm manifest from nothing and now she can only do it under an open sky. She still has the ability to change the temperature of the air, causing it to drop in temperature or rise. If Nyla raises or lowers the temperature enough when outside she will cause a storm to happen. With higher temperatures this results in thunderstorms and tropical storms and lower temperatures create snow storms, blizzards and hail storms.

Her power over the wind has not diminished as much. Hurricanes and Tornadoes are now out of her range but she is still able to produce wind from nothing. From small breezes to blustering gales, Nyla can use the wind to disorient, to destroy and to protect. Anything said on a wind will get back to her, and she can be summoned by name using this method.

Nyla's magic is not just limited to natural storms. Her time during the wars often had her sowing disarray and chaos through the enemy's army using her magic. In contrast, she has the ability to cause calm, which someone once remarked was like the 'calm before the storm'. She can bring silence and utter calm to a room should she wish; a useful tool for a King's Guard. Nyla's glamour is limited and this does not bother her since she has very little use for it.
