History: A promising child, Jasmine was always the smart one of the family and rose through the Years at school to acquire 12 GCSEs and 4 A-Levels, all of the top grades. It dismayed her family that she then put all that intelligence to use in becoming a police officer instead of a lawyer, or a doctor, or some other profession that would make use of those grades. But Policing was what she wanted, and while it was tough, she managed to finally rise to the rank of Detective in CID.
Jasmine was good at what she did, and it was a shock for everyone when on a family holiday for her parents Ruby anniversary in Devon, the family were attacked by lycanthropes. The attack took place in their hotel, and Jasmine was only able to do so much since guns were illegal in England. She was bitten by a snake during the fight, and was otherwise uninjured. It came as a shock afterwards to find out that the bite was from a lycanthrope.
Unlike the USA, lycanthropes weren’t as outed in the UK, but everyone knew the risks of a new lycanthrope and she was suspended. Her Captain had to follow procedure, but knew that the Met Police were losing a good copper if they let her go. He made some phone calls, and said that if she got some help; he would see what he could do. During the next few years, Jasmine worked to control her beast and overcome her own grief and anger over what happened. It was an uphill struggle, and she met with other snake lycanthropes in Devon where it had all happened. The snake that had bit her had been watching the wolves and their business, for the other lycanthropes were worried that the pack was causing troubles. She had been bitten to save her life when it was evident that it was too late to save her family. That angered her for a long time, and eventually she came to terms with it and realised that it was up to her to do something with the gift of life she had been given.
Jasmine contacted her old Captain and after much discussion, including with her councilor and the snake leader who had been helping her, he told her that he had made arrangements for her to join the National Preternatural Squad back in London. The Captain was a friend of his and was preternatural friendly, and as long as Jasmine passed a probationary period she could join up. There were two conditions though; London now had a Reptile group called the Knot, which had only been in London for about a month. She would have to join them. The second condition was that she did not bring any attention to herself or her lycanthropy. The official police record said that she had been bitten by a snake, a cornsnake, that was docile but had been aggrivated during the fight. So as long as she played it “cool”; then she was safe to join them.
Jasmine agreed and she went through 3 months of training before joining the Squad and the Knot. She has been with both for 4 months now and has taken the position of Thor in the Knot.
Appearance: At first glance Jasmine looks like a pretty woman, on second glance people realise she’s a no-nonsence person. She has an athletic build but is never going to have to worry about seeming butch, and is always complaining about bouncing breasts. She can be feminine when she wants to be and most of the time wears a shirt and trousers. Occasionally she can be found in a vest and jeans when she’s just lounging around or when it’s the full moon. Jasmine’s hair fulls in curls about her shoulders and is usually pulled up in a neat bun at the base of her neck, and it never falls out. It’s a dark brown, while her eyes are a lighter shade of hazel and both contrast against her pale skin.
Personality: Jasmine believes in upholding the law and justice being served. The truth is her main priority and she will go to any lengths, within the law, to get it. This means that she can be blunt when she wants to be and she is an independant spirit. She hates to rely on anyone unless it’s at work, where she recognises that other members of the squad have talents that they can bring to the investigation. She is very private about her personal life, and while she is active as Thor of the Knot, she likes her privacy. She goes to great lengths to make sure that her lycanthropy is kept a secret and won’t go easy on anyone who threatens that.
Talents: With a wealth of knowledge and experience under her belt, Jasmine likes to keep an open mind on cases and has an eye for detail. Nothing slips past her, and she follows up every lead carefully. Her personal skills with suspects and victims is good, and she is one of the few Officers who can envoke anger or fear in a suspect without being sued. She makes sure every bit of her investigations follow the book and own bends the rules in an emergency.
Outside of work Jasmine visits the gym and stables frequently. While exercising is required in her line of work, horse riding is her own enjoyment and she can often be found out riding on her own when she needs time to think. As a member of the National Preternatural Squad, Jasmine is trained to use fire arms and can legally carry a gun when on duty. She also knows how to handle herself around most preternatural creatures and has a black belt in Ji Jitsu.
As a lycanthrope, Jasmine is an Alpha and has perfected passing as human. It is a necessity for her in her line of work, and she has worked with other snake lycanthropes and even witches to learn to control her beast’s urges. Being a cornsnake is a blessing since it is one of the less violent snakes, and mostly her beast will rise up in self-defence. Corn snakes are good climbers as well as being quite private, two traits that Jasmine displays fairly often. She has also developed the ability to feed other snake lycanthropes power through her blood, but this ability has not been tried and tested that often.
Weaknesses: While she has worked hard to move on from the death of her family and her change into a lycanthrope, Jasmine does tend to pull away from people. She has had very little relationships with men since and has thrown herself entirely into her work. Her independance and private nature can make her difficult to talk to and it’s hard to know when you’re talking too much in a conversation with her. When she’s on a difficult case she always has a bee in her bonnet, and gains a temper and an anti-social attitude. She can also be an extreme neat freak and flies of the handle if anything, especially paper work, gets moved around.
She has grown comfortable with her beast, but Jasmine’s line of work and situation means that she can’t let her hair down like some lycanthropes. She is very uptight about people finding out about her lycanthropy, and often finds excuses to avoid any preternatural parties or meetings. She also tends to keep out of the way of the vampires, not wanting to get drawn into the politics, and wanting to remain neutral if there are any cases involving vampires.
