Background
Kaleb Kilgar was born just prior to the formation of Thuringia in the Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and the time of the German Revolution. It is not understood how a Scottish lineage/family came to reside in Germany. As far as this Kilgar family is concerned … it is just ‘how it is’.
Kaleb’s father, Villhelm, was a Free Corp (Feikorps) German soldier and was a key member during the German Revolution. Villhelm was also involved in the Seven Years War (or Third Silesian War) when he was only 17 years of age. Villhelm continued with the Free Corps for the next 150 years making the German military his life – with the exception of a 10 year absence from 1817 to 1827 due to his face becoming ‘too familiar’ and raising questions throughout the Free Corp. Although Villhelm longed to rise in the ranks of the military, he knew that this was not possible if he wanted to continue to serve due to him not aging past his apparent current age of around the mid 40’s.
Things changed for Villhelm in 1912 when he met Henrietta. If there is such a thing as ‘love at first site’ then this was it. Villhelm and Henrietta immediately fell in love with Villhelm even neglecting his military duties (something he would never of thought possible) for Henrietta. It wasn’t long before Henrietta fell pregnant with her first son, Henriech, in late 1912. Next came Gretchen in early 1914 and then Kaleb in 1915.
Villhelm surprisingly was not heavily involved in World War I being too distracted with Henrietta and his new children. This was not to be during the German Revolution however as, unknown to Villhelm at the time, the upper echelon of power within the German military knew him for what he really was. Villhelm was asked to assist in the quelling of the Munich Soviet Republic as a high ranking officer which he instantly accepted and travelled to Muich dragging his entire family with him. Villhelm’s love for the military returned (especially upon learning that he no longer had to keep the fact that he was a Vampire a secret) and he quickly rose within the ranks of the Free Corp being involved in the Kapp Putsch and Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch.
It was inevitable that Villhelm’s sons would follow in his footsteps.
Henriech and even Gretchen started serving the military in the late 1920’s while Kaleb surprising left the family at the age of 15 to return to Weimar. He still served in the military though felt the need to return to his hometown.
Three years later Villhelm was honored by Hitler (or so it seemed) and symbolically presented his old flag to the Nazi SA and SS. This was also the time of a great tragedy for the Kilgar family. Now being part of the SA and having attained major power and influence, Hitler saw Villhelm as a threat and ordered his execution (along with his family – except Kaleb who was in Wiemar) during the “Night of the Long Knives” (or Operation Hummingbird). A fight took place between the Kilgar family and a myriad of Hunters. Amazingly, Villhelm along with Henrietta slew all of the Hunters thrown at them. The tragedy came however with the loss of both Henriech and Gretchen. It was only through their age, strength and Villhelm’s military training that Villhelm and Henrietta survived. Following this atrocity, Villhelm and Henrietta fled into hiding to an unknown location which Kaleb is aware of though will never reveal. While in hiding, Villhelm and Henrietta had their fourth child, Elsbeth, whom will celebrate her 63rd birthday this year. Elsbeth represented the start of their new life (even though they were still in hiding) – a new beginning.
Although Kaleb was under tight scrutiny he was aware from reliable informants that Hitler was interested in him more than seeing him as a threat. Particularly so since he had chosen to serve with the SS as opposed to the SA. Kaleb during his military career was besotted with Hitler even with the knowledge that he had ordered for his family’s execution. He accepted the fact that Hitler saw his father as a threat – because, he actually WAS – and had taken necessary steps to eliminate that threat. He respected this. It is a fact that Kaleb will never inform his family of and is ashamed of though believes it is his nature to respect such power, callousness and ruthlessness … and ingenuity.
Kaleb followed Hitler and Hindenburg without question and even actually started enjoying the atrocities that he performed. Dealing death in the worst forms possible became his life taking the opportunity to become a master of inflicting pain and torture without killing. The number of deaths he was able to deal also gave him a rich and never ending source of blood which only thrilled him more so – especially at the onset of World War II.
Kaleb’s time as an SS officer also made use and greatly increased the power of his inherited ability. Supernatural beings fought on both sides during World War II at which time Kaleb had risen in power highly enough to become an officer directly under the First Commandant at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp (just outside his ‘home town’ of Weimar). Kaleb used a myriad of torture techniques on Witches, Shapeshifters and even Vampires with iron, silver and wood as he saw fit. Through his powers, Kaleb was able to keep torturing his victims by inflicting pain then sucking the poison from his victims before repeating the process. He was in his element.
On August 24, 1944 however a very strange thing happened. It was the date that America conducted a bombing raid which also hit the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. The raid seemed to snap Kaleb as if he had been in a trance for the last 10 years. Following the raid, Kaleb simply looked around in horror as a wave of images of death, decay, torture and human experiments came crashing down on him. Kaleb broke down and fled to an unknown place that even Kaleb is unable to remember. Kaleb has no memory of the years from 1944 to 1949 – a whole five years! All he knows is that he found himself lying naked within the hills of Scotland with his last memory being the images flashing within his mind back in 1944.
Kaleb was a new man … reborn. He immediately travelled to Glasgow. The urge to undo his wrongs enormous. The obvious occurred to him – if his previous atrocities were to torture, harm and kill then his new abilities should be to protect, nurture and heal. So he studied to become a Doctor.
Since graduating in 1955, Kaleb has continued to study both the human and supernatural medical and surgical techniques to become a leading physician even amongst those of the supernatural type. He has travelled throughout Scotland, United Kingdom and Europe with a lengthy stay in Weimar to ‘undo his wrongs’ – including saving scores of witches, shapechangers and vampires from certain death with his powers.
After 44 years of service, Kaleb finally started to feel content. He knows in his own mind that he will never be able to fulfill the requirements to ‘undo his wrongs’ though content is something that Kaleb had not felt since before 1944. It was time to move and settle down for a while.
For no reason in particular, Kaleb decided to return to Cork (which he visited during his tours for a short period). He just simply liked the place. He immediately informed the owner of Oak View Surgery of his arrival and went through the normal interviews and scrutiny. He was told that they would ‘get back to him’. He had a little time on his hands it seemed.
Upon a tour of the city, Kaleb spied an Italian restaurant that wasn’t there on his last visit. Although not required to eat as a vampire, Kaleb enjoyed Italian cuisine and immediately took an interest. It didn’t take long for Kaleb to realize that the restaurant was going under and eating the food there was akin to eating dirt. But the place had potential.
Kaleb soon found himself making an offer to buy Stratia’s. He was still awaiting the surgery to get back to him so to fill in time and to ensure the success of the restaurant, Kaleb made a timely trip to Italy and other parts of Europe to persuade some very talented chefs to come work in his restaurant. The restaurant achieved instant success with the chefs working tirelessly and strangely obeying every command that Kaleb gave them.
Upon returning to Cork Kaleb found a message waiting for him that he had been waiting for. An offer for employment at Oak View Surgery. Kaleb had no hesitation in accepting the offer.
Finally feeling more than content, the simmering ruthlessness and need for power started to resurface in Kaleb. Although he continued to protect, nurture and heal, Kaleb now felt the need to increase his influence and power over and with important citizens within Cork and its surrounds. This was easily achieved through the growing fame of Stratia’s. A worthwhile investment it turned out to be indeed.
Although Kaleb now has a myriad of high standing and important clientele, one is of particular note. Finn Moriarty. Or just Moriarty as Kaleb likes to refer to him. He has power, callousness, ruthlessness and ingenuity. Kaleb still lives in Cork to this day with the running of Stratia’s, being a GP and Doctor, increasing his influence and power and assisting (and receiving assistance from) Moriarty his main concerns.
The rest of Kaleb’s family returned to their original ancestral birthplace of Scotland during the 1990’s after their time in hiding. They still reside there in Glasgow. Elsbeth is currently studying having an unending need for knowledge. Kaleb visits them from time to time but has grown apart from his parents. He does have a special place in his heart for Elsbeth though.
Physical Appearance
Kaleb can best be described as beautiful. To look at him simply takes your breath away. He moves with the grace of a dancer as if gliding across the ground. Kaleb wouldn’t be described as tall by today’s standards but is above average height. He is muscular without being bulky. Lean without being skinny.
His face is as if it has been sculpted and, as beautiful as the rest of his body is, it is his greatest asset. Kaleb’s jawline is perfect. It is angular and ‘chiseled’ without being severe and intimidating. Kaleb’s deep eyes are normally a light brown colour – though this relies on how hungry he is or whether he has just fed – and draws you in without you realizing it.
Kaleb has dark blonde wavy hair cropped short and in the latest style which perfectly matches his lightly bronze skin. His attire is normally smart casual but always of the top brand names no matter what he wears. Kaleb knows how to please and dresses to do so. He takes pleasure in watching the looks on faces when he enters a room.
Personality
Kaleb adjusts well in all situations and his personality reflects this. He reacts to every situation and adjusts his personality to achieve the best possible outcome for himself (for business deals and with clientele) or his patients.
On most occasions Kaleb comes across as confident, clever and witty. He can seem arrogant but has every right to be. Due to his looks and influence he gets away with it. Kaleb enjoys a good flirt and knows that the women love it. Cheeky one-liners, buttock smacks and double meaning comments are his forte. He also enjoys giving over the top comments on looks just to see reactions (especially humans).
While working as a GP and Surgeon however Kaleb is all business. His focus is purely on his patient and what he has to achieve to remedy the situation … this doesn’t stop his light demeanor to show itself before and after such business however.
While with clientele, Kaleb is a totally different beast. He is confident and strong and very good at convincing anyone to see his point of view (with the exception of Finn). He talks the talk and walks the walk. He is ruthless and intimidating. When negotiating with him you feel as though not agreeing with him will result in serious and painful consequences – whether it is true or not.
Talents & Weaknesses
With all his success and influence, Kaleb has one main weakness which only a select few are aware of. Candice Taite. She is his lifeblood but also his bane. Kaleb only had to see Candice once to feel intoxicated by her presence. He also feels that Candice is in some way drawn to him - though this could just be a fantasy he wish were true. Kaleb is addicted to Candice's bite. Kaleb is beautiful in his own right ... and he knows it. Knowing that Candice can add to this is beyond words - he only describes it to himself as being akin to the beauty of a God.
Kaleb is also drawn to power and influence and has no issue with achieving it by any means necessary. He tends to feel that he has overcome his callousness and ruthlessness – his ‘evil side’ if you will – though it appears to be resurfacing in recent years. It has proven to be his downfall in the past.
Kaleb’s vampire powers are still very strong. Through his profession, Kaleb has continued to use his inherited power of cleansing blood regularly. Kaleb also uses his bespelling powers regularly to ease the pain and anxiety of patients. Kaleb’s bespelling powers and breaking of humans is in pure evidence by the ease in which he managed to convince the talented chefs to work at Stratia’s. Kaleb is still quite adept at combat due to his military training however this has waned a little over the last 55 years. Any attacker (human or supernatural) would still find Kaleb more than a worthy adversary.
Stratia’s have proven to be a very worthwhile acquisition for Kaleb. Through Stratia’s, Kaleb has become very powerful and influential with contacts all throughout Cork and the surrounding area as well as within the rest of Ireland and into Europe. There is one that appears to have major power over Kaleb however – Finn Moriarty. Finn also has the advantage of Candice working for him and is all too aware of what the affect that Kaleb’s infatuation with Candice would have on his client’s if word ever got out.
During tours through Europe, Kaleb also experienced what the arts have to offer. He enjoys a good Play or Musical and doesn’t mind seeing an Opera. He is also quite adept at playing the piano.
