About Alanna

This fanlisting is for the character Alanna of Trebond and Olau from Tamora Pierce's amazing Song of the Lioness Quartlet. With no interest in learning magic, Alanna switches places with her brother Thom and heads off to become a Knight. Only boys can become knights, and so the books follow Alanna as she hides her gender and takes on the guise of Alan. Eventually her gender is revealed, providing new challenges for Alanna. We watch as she becomes involved with Prince Jonathon, and fends off the attentions of George Cooper. The life of a Queen is not for Alanna, and she marries George, remaining good friends with Jonathon and serving as his Champion.

Fiery and strong-willed, Alanna pops up in all the Tortallan books set after the Song of the Lioness Quartlet. Her quartlet remains my favourite, and that is due to the characters, especially Alanna.
