Background
Rukan was an accident, plain and simple. Her parents, though married, never intended to bring a child into the world, seeing as the pregnancy was more likely to kill Jennifer and the child than a hunter. However, in the year 1984, Jennifer learned that she was pregnant. Even knowing what was at stake, she refused to get an abortion. On April 1, 1985, Jennifer died giving birth to a baby girl, a shapeshifter. Thomas was left to raise Rukan on his own, and that was what he did, with help from his clan, of course.
So, Rukan Smythesson was raised in Nottingham, England. Her father was fairly wealthy, so Rukan was never lacking money. When she was still fairly young she learned how to control her shapeshifting, as Thomas wouldn’t bring her outside, while she possessed a risk of shifting in view of humans, but he didn’t want to keep her inside for her entire childhood.
Because she was able to control her shifting, she was allowed to go to school, albeit a private one. As otherwise she would have been homeschooled, and probably wouldn’t have picked up ‘normal human’ habits. It was in private school that she learned that she had a love of theater, acting, teching, the works. And through the theater she learned that she absolutely positively loved singing.
Her first real sign that she was a dominant shapeshifter, was when she was in high school. She was in a foul mood, and as such had gone to the bathroom, so that in case her control cracked, it would be less likely that she’d be seen. She was staring into the mirror, grimacing, almost snarling, when she realized that her teeth were feeling odd. She opened her mouth and was shocked to see that her teeth know where like those of a wolf. She’d known that dominants were able to change only certain parts of their bodies, but as she’d never really cared to hope that she’d be one, she’d never really learned much about it. So in a panic, as she didn’t know how to make them disappear, she went to home, not bothering to sign out.
When she finally got to her home, she rushed up to her father showing him her teeth. He chuckled, which only annoyed Rukan further, and began to explain the things that she’d zoned out on, when he’d last explained them.
Thankfully, the other two changes, her eyes going golden and her hair going silver, happened at the same time, when she was home, arguing with another shapeshifter about something stupid. This time she had some knowledge on how to reverse it and then get it back.
Once Rukan had completed getting her A-levels, and was ready to apply to college, Thomas stepped in. He had decided that she should go to Reading for her next step in life, as it was a University with a wolf clan, and it had music and theater programs. Rukan had to write a letter to the Clan leader asking permission to enter the Clan’s territory and live with them for her time at University. Thankfully, it was granted, and she was given a room in the Lawrence House.
This is her third year at University, where she’s doing a joint honours degree in Music and Theater. During that time she met Janus Hrothgar, a male witch, they hit off as friends immediately. That relationship began to grow. Unfortunately for them, Wolf Clans forbid ‘serious relationships’ outside of their Clan or species. Which means that Rukan was forced to decide whether to tell the Clan that she was ‘having fun’ with a witch, or to just label him friend. Among the witches they didn’t have that problem, but Rukan was forced to make a decision. For now, she’s saying that they’re just friends.
Physical Appearance
Rukan’s skin is tanned, due to the fact that she enjoys spending time outdoors. Her brown hair goes past her shoulders and is wavy. Her brown eyes may seem calculating at times, but a kind person hides behind them. They also seem to hold sadness in them, and that’s due to never knowing her mother. She isn’t short, but standing around guys she may seem a bit so, as she's 5'4. She's not skinny and she's not fat, she's a pleasant 'chubby'. While she may not look it, she is extremely strong due to her being a shapeshifter. She has a small mouth and a medium sized nose. She has a low, clear voice and excellent posture. She has a diagonal scar on her right hip, that goes from the outside of her hip up to her stomach.
Rukan tends to dress well, she likes comfy casual clothing, but if they aren’t up to a certain level of dress, she won’t wear them out of the dorm. She doesn’t like to wear clothing that could show her scar, which means that short tops and low pants are out of the question for her wardrobe. She tends to wear necklaces (with the ‘chain’ either made of string or a non-silver metal), not caring for rings all that much, she leaves that to Janus.
When she’s in her wolf form, she has silver fur that is tipped black. Her eyes are gold, and sharp. She’s slim, being able to slip through small holes and such.
Personality
Rukan is a very outgoing person. She’d rather work alone, but doesn’t really care too much. She enjoys being around lots of people, even though she isn’t very talkative, but when a subject that she is interested in is brought up, it is hard to make her shut up. She enjoys having attention, but at the same time loathes it, as people tend to be over critical of the person in the spotlight. She isn’t very trusting of strangers, but is very loyal to the people that she does know.
She has an attitude, but is usually fairly polite when she’s talking to people, unless she’s talking with someone that she really doesn’t like or if she’s in a bad mood. When talking to authority figures Rukan tries to be polite and courteous, but will butt-heads if she disagrees strongly with something they’ve said. When she’s with Janus, her temper seems to lessen. He has a slight calming effect on her. Her never knowing her mother has taken a toll on her, and as such she tries to hide any pain and sadness behind a mask, which just adds to her temper.
Talents & Weaknesses
When riled up, she has a very fiery temper, which has gotten her in trouble more than once. Rukan struggles in mathematics, hating the subject. She doesn’t like being locked inside for long periods of time. If she feels like she’s being confined she tends to get fidgety and crabby. She has a hard time understanding people, who have less money than her, when they talk about saving their money, or how they wanted to get something but couldn’t afford it. Janus. Her feelings for him are going out of the friend or ‘just having fun’ zones and she worries about him.
Rukan has a strong singing voice and a wide range. She prefers to sing more rock-styled music, but enjoys folk as well. She is good at acting, often resorting to it when she’s in a foul mood to try and keep her face and voice from showing what she really thinks and feels. Due to being a shapeshifter, she’s quite strong physically. She never has to worry about running out of money, or not having the right books or equipment for her classes. Rukan is quite flexible and fast. She is a strong reader and writer, loving books. She can be extremely stealthy when need be.
She is learning how to play the guitar, so that she can sing and play, instead of having to either a) sing acapella or b) convince someone to play while she sings.
She can shapeshift her teeth to being like her wolf ones, her eyes which go golden and can see farther distances, even though it causes her to go colour blind, and her hair which goes silver. Do to the slimness of her wolf form she’s able to slip through small spaces easier than most.
