Background

Justice Celia Evans, daughter to a pair of university professors, was born and raised in Reading. Her home was frequently the site of lively dinner parties. Lively, meaning grossly uncomfortable, at least for Justice. At these events, her philosophy professor mother and law professor father battled it out at the tops of their lungs, egged on by their most promising students and brilliant friends. Her parents had opposing opinions on just about everything, from the latest issue before parliament to what kind of wine should be served with dessert. They were fascinating, passionate people, and Justice felt like a stupid nobody in their presence.

As a child, Justice had tried to contribute her own opinion to these wild debates. But it never seemed to matter whose side she took or what the topic was, she was always wrong. Her arguments were poorly researched, poorly stated, and worst of all, juvenile. Go figure. In time, she learned to hide her own thoughts and parrot the opinion of whomever seemed to be winning. Later, she avoided the debates altogether, feigning ignorance of the topic or hiding behind a stack of homework. In her parents' defense, they didn't mean to be demeaning; they were just too involved in their own need to be right to make room for anyone else's opinions, even their daughter's.

School was a different story. Justice excelled, at least academically. She mastered the skill of regurgitating meaningless facts and used her parroting strategies to survive the essays. Math became her favorite subject. She didn't have to bash the numbers into submission with dozens of cited references or tug their emotional heartstrings to make them behave the way she wanted. She just had to know the rules and follow them. And once those rules were learned, she could safely use them time and time again no matter which teacher was handing out the problems.

While her instructors adored and even befriended Justice, she was less successful with her peers. She was pretty enough, pleasant and friendly too. But also weak. Justice followed the crowd in everything from fashion to music and so was always on the edge of the in-crowd. After all, it's not the followers who get noticed; it's the leaders.

When it came time to choose a university, her mother wanted her to select one far away. Her father wanted her home and at Reading. Justice made a debate stopping compromise. She would stay in Reading but live in the dorms. Her parents would still be able to keep an eye on her while she attempted to develop a life and maybe even a few opinions of her own.

Physical Appearance

Justice considers her appearance to be very average. She stands at 5'4", weighs in at around 115 pounds. She has dark hair, dark eyes, and the kind of complexion that tans easily. Her smiles tend to be closed lipped and cautious. She keeps her fingernails trimmed short and polished in bright colors. Both the length of her nails and color help remind Justice not to bite them, a nasty habit she finally succeeded in breaking just a few months ago. When comfortable, she tends to sit on her knees and talk with her hands. Discomfort will show in self-consciously perfect posture and very still hands.

Fashionably speaking, she tends to stick with with neutral tones, t-shirts, khakis and jeans. She wears tennis shoes for comfort and usually pulls her long, straight hair up in a ponytail. Now that she's an adult more or less, her parents expect her to spend her own money for the more fashionable nonessentials. As such, she's avoiding trendy dressing... at least until she can find a job.

Personality

Justice defines herself by the things she thinks she's not. She's not smart, but she's a hard worker. She's not beautiful, but she's pretty. She's not interesting, but she's loyal. She's not unique, but she's likable.

Always overshadowed by those with stronger personalities, Justice has yet to find herself. She's probably ripe for the first campus cult, radical activist, or drug dealer willing to provide her with an identity. For now, she's the girl who always does her homework, always goes to class, always does the extra credit. Her world revolves around academics and very little else.

But despite that, she's reasonably cheerful. She's neither an unhappy person nor an intense one. Where life is concerned, Justice is just the girl in the passenger seat, listening to the radio and enjoying the view.

Talents & Weaknesses

Justice is excellent with numbers and details. She excels at tasks that require focus and concentration but withdraws from those needing leadership or charisma. Her love of puzzles and math has helped to develop a deep vein of curiosity, and she can be quite tenacious when presented with a mystery. While her parents wrestle with the ambiguities of right and wrong, Justice is only concerned with the cold hard facts. In fact, right and wrong have very little place in her world. She's only concerned with what is and what is not.

Other subjects besides math have drawn her attention over the years. She's an excellent pianist although she's never attempted writing music of her own. She has a real ear for language and is fluent in Latin and is quite good with many of its derivative languages especially French and Spanish. She's currently studying Russian in her spare time.

Although not entirely hopeless athletically, she'd never be picked first for any team. While coordinated enough for most sports, she lacks the drive to win that would make her a truly valuable player.
