Background

Astrid was born the middle child to Lauren and Peter Jacobs. Though she wasn’t neglected in any way by her parents, she didn’t get as much attention paid to her as Emerald and Ruby did; and tended to try to find her own amusement. To try and find something that she enjoyed – and that her parents would be proud of – she flitted from interest to interest. Finally, she found her passion in computers, particularly in writing programs – but she just seemed to have a knack for most things to do with computers.

Just when she turned nineteen, Astrid met a man who seemed only slightly older than herself – but with a strange sort of calm that made him act older than he appeared. Astrid became fascinated with this man – whose name was Sky – and, as time passed, began to develop feelings for him, which seemed to be returned.

Though hesitant to tell her parents about the relationship at first, Astrid eventually told them about Sky, and was relieved that they were happy for her, even asking to meet this young man. For a time, everything seemed happy.

And then, everything went sour. One day, after getting home from work, Astrid came into the house to find her mother dead in the hallway, all blood drained from her body. Astrid grabbed the first weapon to hand – her father’s sharpened walking stick – and walked into the living room to find Sky with her father, face buried into the other man’s neck. At her entrance, Sky raised his head; and Astrid saw the blood staining his lips.

Shocked, horrified, and filled with disbelief, Astrid didn’t hesitate. She attacked Sky and managed to wound him. But it did no good, and Sky was able to bite her neck, draining her blood enough to cause her to fall unconscious.

When Astrid woke, it was to find herself with the hunters who had been tracking Sky down. Though they had saved her, they had been unable to kill the vampire. Desiring little more than to revenge herself on Sky, Astrid petitioned to join Charlie Macintosh’s group of hunters, bringing with her computer skills and passion. She has been with the group for about a year and a half now.

Physical Appearance

Race-wise, Astrid is oriental – on her mother’s side, who she takes after more in appearance. Her hair is auburn and curly, reaching down to just below her shoulders. She has very dark eyes – almost black – and is tall and slender, with some curves which she makes no attempt to hide. She has a scar on her neck, from where she was bitten by Sky. Her eyes are slightly slanted, and her clothing style is geared more towards the comfortable and practical rather than something which merely looks nice – so she’s more likely to wear jeans and trainers.

Personality

Astrid can be quite snarky and sarcastic, almost disrespectful when she thinks that someone else is in the wrong. She uses verbal barbs as a form of armour, pushing people away before they can get close to her. She’s not afraid to say exactly what she thinks, but can have quite bad mood swings. Sometimes, she’ll have fits of depression. Scratch the surface, however, and Astrid will be a friend for life. If she knows a person well, that’s when she calms down and is a nicer person to be around.

Talents & Weaknesses

As mentioned above, Astrid is very skilled when it comes to computers. Though she’s not perfect at something like spreadsheets – mostly because that holds little interest for her – she has developed hacking skills, which are particularly useful when it comes to trying to find out information. She can also create viruses. Though she doesn’t have much idea of how to fix a broken computer, that is one of the things she hopes to gain from the course she’s taking.

She’s good with almost anything technology-wise, but her people skills are almost hopeless. Subtlety is definitely not her strong point, and she very often doesn’t think before she speaks. She might be bright and chatty one moment, but very down and close to tears the next. She especially hates vampires, and blinds herself to the possibility that there may be good supernatural creatures. She’s stubborn, and once she has an idea, latches onto it with both hands.
