Background

Aoide is the oldest daughter of Lucas and Seraphina Diodorus, two hunters who planned to have nine children named after the Greek muses in an attempt to fill up the ranks of the hunters. Though her parents made the decision not to fill their daughters in on their true ‘jobs’ until they’d turned eighteen, there were a few things which led her to believe that her parents were doing something shady; possibly illegal. Of course, she wasn’t given much of a chance to concentrate on that, what with having schoolwork and two younger sisters – all of which took up a lot of time. During her years growing up, she also studied martial arts.

About a week after her eighteenth birthday, Aoide’s parents sat her down and told her what it was they did. All things considered, Aoide took it remarkably well. After all, these were her parents. She was eager to learn, and started her training, but worked to keep it from her sisters; and it was a while before she was able to do any hunting.

A vampire began stalking Aoide after his wife had been killed by her parents. Deciding that the Diodorus’s children were their weak spot, the vampire went after the eldest. Because of her training, Aoide was able to trap and kill the vampire – after which, there was no going back, had she even wanted to.

Lucas and Seraphina didn’t try to hide the truth from Aoide, and it didn’t take long for her to follow in their footsteps. For nearly two years, life just went on – and then Zinovia brought home a vampire boyfriend, an act which ended with Aoide’s younger sister finding out about the supernatural and trying to deal with it. Though Aoide took Zinovia along on hunts, she could tell that her sister’s heart wasn’t in it; and backed up Zin’s decision not to become a hunter, even though she was disappointed in her.

Once again, things continued with little problems. Zinovia eventually went away to Reading University, and Aoide met Jared Vanders, a businessman who knew nothing about the supernatural. One thing led to another, and Aoide and Jared first started dating, then later became engaged. Then, while Jared was away on one of his business trips, Aoide found out that Thalia had been bitten by a lion shapeshifter. Knowing that she couldn’t let their parents find out, Aoide worked with Zinovia to get Thalia transferred to Reading University as soon as possible. Then, Aoide went after the shapeshifter who had bitten her sister and killed him.

Deciding that Thalia might be able to lead her to other shapeshifters, Aoide’s chosen to go to the university as well. She still keeps in close contact with Jared, who still doesn’t know about what she really does. Aoide only just joined Charlie’s group, after one of the previous members was killed.

Physical Appearance

Aoide looks very exotic, taking more after her Asian heritage than the others. She has a wealth of wavy black hair, down to just above her hips. Her eyes are wide and dark, and she always seems to have a half-smile playing around her lips. She’s tall and slender, with an oval-shaped face and pale skin.

Aoide often wears clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in – but also very stylish and attractive. She dresses to accentuate her figure rather than hide it, and can often be seen wearing a silver necklace that Jared gave her. Despite her lifestyle, her body is unmarked; and she has a way of moving that seems like she’s flowing, and a particular grace to her that’s particularly obvious when she dances – but also when she fights.

Personality

Aoide is borderline-sociopathic. If she wasn’t a hunter, there’s a very real possibility that she may have become a killer of humans. Though she appears calm most of the time – at least to her friends and family – Aoide does have violent tendencies. She enjoys what she does – more so because she sees it as being right. It could be argued that she doesn’t really love her sisters and parents, but she is extremely protective of them. She’s not afraid to do what she has to in order to get to a target; including using her sister to go after shapeshifters.

Talents & Weaknesses

Though Aoide is more a weapons-based hunter, she can do martial arts very well. She’s also a very good teacher, even though she lacks the ability to empathise with other people. She can be ruthless, and isn’t held back by the same inhibitions most people are. She won’t get close to people – even other hunters – and won’t let anyone else know about Thalia being a shapeshifter and Zin being an anti-hunter, especially other hunters. She can follow orders if she agrees with them, but isn’t afraid to go off on her own if she sees a need to.

Aoide’s organisation skills leave something to be desired – but she seems to be able to find what she needs in the mess of papers always on her desk. She sees chores as a necessary evil, but often puts them off for as long as possible. She’s quite athletic, always keeping her body in top condition.
